6 Books Everyone Should Read

One of the top three questions I get all the time is about book recommendations.  I guess it’s obvious I love to read in my spare time.  If you have not noticed, I am a huge fan of personal development books but occasionally will read a good novel.  I put together some of my faves and staples for reading. I feel these books are full of life gems and can be applied to any season you are in.   Check out my favorite books and biggest takeaways below!

1. Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes
Takeaways:
  • There is power in stepping out of your comfort zone! I believe stepping out of your comfort zone will show you what you are truly made of!  I consider myself to be a “creature of habit” but noticed I learn so much about myself when I try new things. This book encourages you to say YES to things you would normally say no to.  Many times we just think of saying yes when it comes to our professional goals but this book made me think about it in all aspects (love, life, etc).
  • The Year of Yes is also about ‘NO’.  This was a MAJOR TAKEAWAY for me!!!  I learned that to say YES to what matters most – you have to say no to things that are no longer a priority.  This is something I adopted in my 30s. There is nothing worse than agreeing to do something and you regret saying yes…. JUST SAY NO SIS!!!! Your friends will understand and you will thank yourself for it later.
  • You can’t be great at it all.   Life is all about seasons– the sooner you realize that … the better! This little gem will also keep your edges intact lol.  I had to recite this daily after becoming a mom to remind myself to focus on what was most important at the time (nothing else)! Some days you will be a stellar mom… And suck at work. Other days will be the opposite. Just remember that it is normal and to give yourself GRACE!

2. The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence   with Everyday Courage by Mel Robbins
The 5 Second Rule - by Mel Robbins (Hardcover) - image 1 of 1
Takeaways:
  • Don’t Hesitate: As soon as you have an instinct to take action, count backward from five, and then act. The more time that passes, the more excuses your brain will come up with to stop you from doing whatever it is you are planning to do.
  • Make moves based on your GOALS, not your Feelings: Stop waiting until you feel ready because you probably never will feel ready. This is why having discipline is so critical!

3. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth by T. Harv Eker Secrets of the Millionaire Mind - by T Harv Eker (Hardcover) - image 1 of 1
Takeaways:
  • Must be Fully Committed: “If you are not fully, totally, and truly committed to creating wealth, chances are you won’t”.
  • The Law of Income: ‘You will be paid in direct proportion to the value you deliver according to the marketplace”.  Major Takeaway for me!
  • New Levels require a New Mindset: “If you want to move to a higher level of life, you have to be willing to let go of some of your old ways of thinking and being and adopt new ones”.

4. You are a Badass by Jen SinceroYou Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life (Paperback) by Jen Sincero - image 1 of 4
Takeaways:
  • Find what’s holding you back! To become what you want to be in life, you need to pinpoint what is holding you back, address it, and don’t let anything distract you from your goals.
  • Shift your mindset: “You need to go from wanting to change your life to deciding to change your life.”  A huge part of shifting your mindset involves knowing your worth, what you deserve, and getting rid of the negative beliefs.  I feel that once you master this – nothing will stop you from making it happen!
  • Your new life will cost you: “If you want to live a life you’ve never lived, you have to do things you’ve never done.”

5. You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen SinceroYou Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero (Paperback) - image 1 of 1
Takeaways:
  • The mind is powerful- be careful not to block what you desire most:  “Our subconscious mind has a lot of power and influence over our physical world and more often than not it is creating our reality without us knowing it. We could be subconsciously repelling abundance in our life, we could be repelling the business that we’ve always wanted to create because of what lives in our subconscious mind and it is important to identify and release those thoughts and memories.
  • Financial Wealth is an inside job: ‘If you can change your mindset about money, you can change your financial situation”.
  • Lose the excuses: “You can have excuses OR successes. You can’t have both”.

6. The Alchemist: A Fable About Following Your Dream by Paul CoelhoThe Alchemist (Anniversary) (Paperback) by Paulo Coelho - image 1 of 1
Takeaways:
  • Follow your heart desires even when faced with opposition: When life throws curveballs your way, remember why you started and continue to go after what your heart truly desires. Find the lesson in every obstacle and know that overcoming it will bring you one step closer to your dream life.
  • Embrace the Journey: reaching the goal is great but the beauty is in the journey along the way.
  •  Lessons trump possession: materialistic possessions will not last forever — internal lessons will.
  • The Ripple Effect: When you strive to be the best version of you, everything around you becomes better too
